Firm Profile

Gittings Associates Architects in Princeton, NJ combines the quality and professionalism associated with large architecture firms with the personal service found in smaller firms.  The firm prides itself on creativity as well as attention to detail.  We believe in researching the details of a project; listening to our clients; exploring exhaustive design options, and looking at economics in order to best solve the problem at hand.

Projects include hotels, office buildings, universities, schools, houses of worship, housing, retail, municipal work, industrial buildings, and private residences.  This well rounded experience enhances creativity and provides new perspectives for different building typologies.  Our work with institutions often includes master planning, building code studies, and accessibility studies. The staff’s technical understanding of construction enables us to provide high quality design services for the construction of new buildings and the renovation of existing structures.  The firm has extensive experience with existing building assessments for code compliance, feasibility studies, and renovations. The success of our projects is demonstrated by our repeat clients.  These include Princeton University, Dow Jones, Evergreen, IBM and numerous churches throughout the state.

Established in 1997 by William Gittings, AIA, Gittings Associates Architects has grown over the years in staff size and projects because of the firm’s proven performance. Prior to starting the firm, Mr. Gittings excelled in the corporate world as an associate at Ford, Farewell, Mills, and Gatsch Architects, where he assumed key leadership roles on both new and historical projects ranging from two to forty million dollars for the New Jersey State House, Rutgers University, Georgian Court College, Princeton Day school and other private institutions. Mr. Gittings learned construction and craftsmanship skills in a family furniture and building restoration business before earning his architecture degree at Carnegie Mellon University.

The Team at Gittings Associates Architects works in a collaborative “studio” setting. The team atmosphere supports loyalty and commitment to the firm and its clients.  A flexible organization allows the staff to respond efficiently to design challenges. The staff is accustomed to a fast-paced work environment and is able to produce accurate and thorough work under difficult time constraints. Individual staff members have work experience in theaters/concert halls, urban buildings, sustainable projects, and historic buildings.

Technology and Research is a key aspect of the design process at Gittings Associates Architects.  All documents are produced using the latest 2D and 3D programs including AutoCad, Sketchup, Viz, Photoshop and Illustrator to help clients fully understand their projects.   Physical models and even mockups are often produced to help the team and clients make informed decisions.  The staff regularly attends technical seminars to keep up with current products and technologies.  The firm also has 2 LEED accredited professionals on staff to help implement green technology and concepts in our projects.
